Copyrighted materials (such as photographs of a person, product or event) that are known to have come from a press kit or similar source may be used for the purpose of reuse by the media. It is believed that the use of this material to illustrate the person, product or event in question, in the absence of a free alternative, qualifies as fair use. Screenshots of copyrighted material from media such as comics, television shows or computer games may be used where the copyright is most likely held by the publishing company. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots for identification of and critical commentary on the media in question, including depiction of copyrighted characters, qualifies as fair use as such display does not significantly impede the right of the copyright holder to sell the copyrighted material, is not being used to turn a profit in this context, and presents ideas that cannot be exhibited otherwise.
